MCHENRY COUNTY CHAPTER

The McHenry County Pheasants Forever Chapter was established in 1984 under the leadership of Bob Veugeler and others.  The chapter is 100% volunteer run chapter.  At that time, there were 90 Pheasants Forever members within McHenry County, Illinois.  In 1985, membership grew to 130 members.  Today there are nearly 600 Pheasants Forever, Ring-neck, and life members within McHenry County, with an average of 200 banquet attendees each year.

Habitat and food plot projects encompass areas within McHenry, Kane, Dupage, and Lake Counties.  We have also supported projects in Southern Wisconsin and North Dakota.  The McHenry County Chapter has planted more than 2,000 acres of warm season grasses, cool season grasses,  winter survival food plot mixes, and helped improve wetlands for winter cover.  The chapter is also the proud owner of two specialty prairie seed planters.  These planters (drills) are used on Pheasants Forever habitat projects and utilized by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for improving Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) habitat and state/county conservation areas.

Habitat support is also given through the Pheasants Forever Legislative Fund.  This fund makes it possible for representatives of Pheasants Forever to work with U.S. representatives and other government agencies on the behalf of habitat issues nation wide.  Such issues include continued CRP funding, and expanding public hunting opportunities such as the "open fields" initiatives.

In addition, we support events and outdoor opportunities for youth.   These include:  *hunter saftey courses *habitat lectures *Aldo Leopold Conservation Classes *target Shooting *guiding youth hunts *hunting opportunities.

Please help support us through volunteering or attending our fundraising banquet.   Your support will keep our projects and youth activities growing in our community and nationwide.
